CCD for Kappa CCD

Postby kaftory » 18 Feb 2010, 12:06

Hello,
I am sure that some of the users of Nonius Kappa CCD diffractometers had the same bad experience that we recently had, the CCD is not functioning correctly. Upgrading the whole system is much too expensive. I wonder if someone was able to find solution to this situation. It will be just stupid to leave the diffractometer idle.
Thanks for any sort of information,

Did you see this post viewtopic.php?f=22&t=810 effectively about the same thing?

Have you tried contacting the CCD manufacturer directly instead of the diffractometer company?
Is it something simple like a cooling issue, or perhaps a fault with the power supply for the Peltier chiller?

What are the actual symptoms of not working correctly? Perhaps it is a known issue that can be resolved?

Bruker AXS has spares for Nonius KappaCCD systems (new or repaired). You should contact them.

It is good to hear Bruker are supporting the older Kappa systems as I was under the impression (wrongly it appears) that they were only allowing upgrades to the new APEXII detector if you had issues with your older Roper system.

Yes we still do repair the Roper detectors and very seldom do I come across one I can't fix. If those cases we do have refurbished ones we can offer in exchange.

With that being said, it is a good practice just to make sure all 3 fans on your CEU are working. These are heavy duty fans but some of the CEU's are now up to 16 years old.

There are two fans located on the front left side to draw air in and one fan in the back to push the air out. If you come across one not running very strong you could probably find a fan locally.
