Ok, anyone here used any of the SRS facilities in the past. Remember working down the narrow path to Station 9.8. Been in the LASL or 9.3. Picturing it all?

Hold that picture.

Now look at it, as of today!

Yep that is where all of 9 was and yep that is where all of 9 is no more.

The glowing figure is not the ghost of Station Scientist past but Louise doing rad checks or so I am told. Just behind here is the metal up rights which were just outside Station 9.8's door.

Looks like Louise found some radiation the way she is lit up!

Sad to see the SRS like that. I now work at HASYLAB in Hamburg where we have two (ZWEI) working synchrotrons! HASYLAB had the bright idea of building the replacement machine for DORIS on the same site, why didn't we think of that in the UK!

You sir DO NOT get me started about building DLS (Daresbury laboratory south) on the same site as the SRS. Old wounds and such. Couple that to a brutal Fedora 12 system freeze forcing me on to my netbook, well I may just loose my temper and reconfigure the X-ray machine in to a death ray!

It is a funny system here in the UK, I've even heard Ian Munroe talk about the good system the German synchrotrons have, especially when it comes down to University collaboration/links.
